The internet gives us the occasion to keep in touch with our friends anywhere in the world; however, it is also belived it may encourage people to stay at home. Personally speaking, there are a two main examples I can provide to support why the internet is a powerful tool in today’s world and why it is in fact advantageous.
First of all, it allows people who are far away from home, may it be because of work or to study, to remain connected to their friends and loved ones. New technologies gave the new generations the opportunity of exchanging instant messages with people all around the world, not only that but also gave the possibilities of sharing moments with people who are far away. Instant messages are cheaper and a lot faster compared to letters which may sometimes do not even arrive. An example of people who derive benefits from these new technologies are people who are studying abroad: the internet gave these people the occasion to celebrate important events even while staying in another country.
The internet is also a key tool to interconnect and share cultures and ideas with different parts of the globe, creating in fact, a melting pot of cultures. Compared to the premise given intially, more than making people wanting to stay at home, the internet made people feel curious and interested about all the different cultures they see online. It is actually not rare to find people travelling because of what they saw posted online, which picked up their interests.
In conclusion, while the internet may seem like making us feel more lonely it, on the contrary, makes people even more connected, not only at a personal level but also as a citizien of the world.
