It is believed by some people that libraries should aim to provide traditional books to the public, while provisions of electronic data such as computer software, videos and DVDs are wastes for library whose resources and space are limited. I totally disagree their opinion.
For one, as one of the public services which serve information to civilians, libraries undertake the responsibility to provide comprehensive information via different mediums, yet only providing traditional books. There are deficient resources in the public library which only supply paper books to citizens, especially for those citizens who are illiterate or blind. Hardly do they read books. In this case, such electronic devices that it would be the choice via supplying some documentaries, audiobooks and DVDs which enable every individual to acquire information by hearing or watching without biological barriers.
For aother, in considering of efficiency in exerting the limiting resources in public libraries, supplying new forms of mediums would be served as thrifts rather than wastes of space and resources. Since one electronic book is able to contain the content of hundreds books written on papers, each provision of electronic book equals to preserve substantial paper books. Had it not been for supplying paper books, there are considerable expenditure on maintenance which could be originally allocated to other programs such as to purchase new devices.
In conclusion, to base on facts, public libraries owing to serve information in electronic form, but also guarantee the provision of those devices are sufficient. Introduction of electronic mediums generates and boosts the productivity of libraries, and contributes to the public who require to find information with plentiful and various methods.
