Band 6+: The most important aim o science should be to improve people's lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The betterment of human lives must be the primary objective of science. This essay disagrees with this statement and demonstrates how detrimental the effects of using science for the improvement of people’s lives causes adverse effects to the natural processes of nature and effects other organisms humans share the world with.

To begin with, science has allowed humans to alter natural phenomenon according to their whims and fancies. Although this has produced very useful products like medicines and drugs, the counterproductive part of these activities cannot be ignored. People contemporarily are habituated to comforts that are prodigal and have destructive effects on nature and its functioning. Many of these habits have been developed to improve the lives of human beings, but end up causing harm to other natural beings. For example, the mobile phones were invented to bridge the gap of communication between individuals, but due to the advancement of technology and demands of more comfort. Technologies such as 5G etcetera are being introduced. These services employ high energy and frequency radiation that has known to disturb the migration of birds during their transition period causing them to be Flummoxed and inadvertently succumb to death.

The Earth is not humans alone. It is meant to be a haven for all living beings present on this planet. Human beings happened to achieve a level of intelligence that allows them to understand the laws of nature and control them via science. Thus causing destruction of other organisms. For instance, the nuclear power reactors are very dangerous energy systems. Before they could be harnessed properly, multiple underwater experiments were conducted to understand and tap into this energy in a better way. These underwater tests caused vast destruction of marine life and has left devastating after effects that haven’t been solved to this day.

In conclusion, although science can be used as means to improve people’s lives, it shouldn’t be the primary objective of the subject. There are many other ramifications that people need to be Mindful about, particularly about the effects on the environment and the species we share our planet with.

The rapid increase of remote work, accelerated by technological advancements and the pandemic, has reshaped professional landscapes.
