It is believed that music plays a significant role in helping people relieve stress. While I agree that stress relief is important, I believe music serves other equally vital functions
One important reason why I agree with this view is that upbeat rhythms can lower cortisol levels and distract listeners from anxious thoughts. As a result, people are more likely to be more cheerful and excited to do their duties, which can lead to an increase in productivity. For example, thanks to music, the students revising for exams who often listen to calm playlists report feeling less anxious, which helps them concentrate for longer periods
However, music also serves other important functions, such as a sense of connection and emotional support. With music, apart from listening to music alone, people may have more opportunities to get on well with other people who have the same interest by joining music group activities like choir singing, music festivals, playing instruments. Therefore, people may not only have chances to play music but they may also broaden their friendship circle and improve their social skills by interacting with other players and sharing common interests. Furthermore, music sometimes can be used to educate children due to the stories behind each song that composers wish to convey to listeners. Additionally, children who learn quickly can also learn new languages from listening to foreign music. That is to say, children may gain valuable lessons and more language knowledge when listening to music.
In conclusion, I therefore only partly agree that stress relief is music’s most important function. Providing a sense of bond and emotional support and educating children are other functions from which people can benefit
