The most important function of music is that it helps people reduce stress. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Some people think one of the most significant roles of music is its ability to relieve stress. While acknowledging some arguments advocating these opinions, I firmly believe that many functions are more critical.
Granted, one might argue that melody can heal individuals’ emotions. This seems reasonable since listening to musical compositions has been proven to lower dopamine levels, and reduce relaxation after a hard-working day. However, this line of reasoning fails to mention that the tendency to enjoy music can help people learning a new language. This is because song lyrics repeat words, phrases, and rhymes, making it easier for many individuals learning a foreign language to learn new vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and also grammar structures. As a result, this issue can enhance their linguistic skills and confidence when communicating with foreigners.
It is worth noting that hearing musical instruments or music has other positive aspects. One of them is that it can help people better understand the history of that country. In the music videos of artists nowadays, people will often show a segment about their country’s traditions, and with each individual’s way of searching for information, people can deeply understand that country such as traditions, culture or even traditional folk music. Another merit is that hearing music when concentrating on work assists people achieve work efficiency. For example, when people are not inspired to work, listening to a song or a playlist that they are interested in will sometimes make it easier for them to focus on their work; thereby, helping them increase their work efficiency.
In conclusion, while listening to music can assist individuals in alleviating stress, I strongly argue that turning into melody also has many functions. Gaining a deep knowledge of the history of other countries and increasing productivity in solving work problems is my viewpoint.
