Band 6+: The number of people who decide not to have children has increased greatly Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

It is a common belief that the development of not giving birth in a huge number of families is considerably beneficial. However, there is a more compelling argument that this trend could negatively impact the labor workforce in many countries.

Not having babies allows individuals to have more great opportunities to elevate their career paths and personal experience. Because nurturing children takes lots of time and effort to adopt and educate them. Additionally, the cost of raising a child is inexpensive such as: studying fee, allowance and living expenses. Instead of devoting these investments for children, many citizens make decisions to put effort into working and traveling. As a result, they could get advancements in career as well as gain more experiences through their journeys. For instance, in a large number of developed countries, according to some surveys, newlyweds do not want to have babies, since they oppose that nurturing babies requires high-expenses, while they completely spend these budgets for not only personal life but also work passion.

Nevertheless, the development of deciding not to have children seriously affects the labor workforce in many nations. Overtime, the population of working age is older, therefore, governments always need younger generations replaced with the previous ones to force economic growth continuously. If citizens do not decide to give birth, those countries may deal with labor shortage, leading to inhibit economic progress. Take Japanese authorities as an example, they are making efforts to enact encouraging childbirth policies such as financial incentives and parental leave. Because Japanese governments realize that the rate of aging is increasing rapidly in their countries. If there is no intervention timely, these developments cause negative consequences to their economy.

In conclusion, there are certain benefits of the development of not having children. It is evident that there are far more drawbacks to the decrease of birth rate for countries’ labor workforce.
