Band 7+: The number of plants and animals is declining. Describe some reasons for this problem and suggest some solutions. Write at least 250 words.

In this day and age, it is often reported that the quantity of plants and animals witness an alarming drop in recent years. This essay will consider the culprits for this problem and outline possible solutions.

To begin with, there are two main factors to blame for this issue. One of these is the destruction of forests. As the demands for more accommodations and other facilities are increasing significantly, deforestation is unavoidable. Thus, more trees are chopped down and wildlife loses their living habitat. In the worst condition, if those spoiling actions proceed, there will be flash floods endangering creatures. Another reason is overhunting. Since wild materials are costly and profitable, many animals become the preys of hunters. As a result, several rare species are killed and end up with extinction. This could be exemplified by the fact that the disappearance of alcids is one of the consequences of poaching.

Fortunately, several steps can be taken to alleviate the falling number of wildlife. The most plausible measure is conservation. As long as more volunteer campaigns are organized to create homes for creatures which have their habitat destroyed by human territorial expansion, they would be kept away from lurking dangers, such as natural disasters and poaching. Moreover, this issue can be also prevented by setting stricter regulations against hunting scarce species and deforestation. If the government adds more severe penalties on these illegal actions, there would be less hunters trying to reoffend. Additionally, logging industries would be forced to cut down a limited number of trees.

In conclusion, deforestation and hunting are the causes of the reduction of plants and animals. However, there are some ways to address this problem, namely conservation and tightening the rules.
