In my opinion, not all employment fields are suitable for freelance work.
To begin with, the positive aspects of increasing popularity of freelance work are convenience and ability to save money and time on a road. Because it can be quite stressful for many people to spend all day at work, whether it is in an office or outside, remote work provides convenient facilities in a comfort of one’s home. For example, if a person is hungry during a working session at home, they are not prohibited of going to the kitchen and having a snack. However, in some location-based jobs, employees are obligated to wait for a lunch break. In addition to this, going to work might be time-consuming, and some also spend money on it, even if they own their own vehicle. Therefore, the popularity of freelance jobs is undeniably beneficial as it enhances comfort and helps individuals save both time and money on a road.
On the other hand, the main drawbacks of freelance jobs are possible lack of work-life balance and social interaction. When there is a specific space for a person to work in, it helps achieve a healthier lifestyle, leaving home as a place for relaxation and leisure. But for people who work as a freelancer, the line between home and a workplace is crossed, making it almost impossible to avoid overworking. Since individuals may be getting used to both working and resting at home, this could be a reason why many freelancers lack basic human interaction. For instance, a workplace usually entails being part of a company and engaging with coworkers, building a healthy social environment, which is not the case for freelances, as they tend to work by themselves, seeing their colleagues and clients only on screens. Hence, the negative aspects of remote jobs trend, such as work-life balance and face-to-face interaction, should also be considered.
In my opinion, there are some employment spheres, that should not be converted to a freelance format. This is because many jobs include face-to-face meetings. For example, doctor’s appointment could not be done through a video call, because doctors should examine their patients carefully, especially if the disease is quite serios. Therefore, not every existing work can be done remotely.
In conclusion, the worldwide trend of freelance jobs represents a technological breakthrough, with positive aspects such as comfortable environment, reduced transportation costs and time-efficiency, as well as drawbacks like lack of harmony between work and a personal life, along with limited social engagement.
