During the last 5 decades, there was a huge shift regarding the role of women in many countries. But do these changes ensure that a society has established gender equality? In my opinion, even the most advanced nations are still god far away from achieving the equality of the two genders.
Several people argue that in some advanced nations in the work, like Scandinavian countries, especially Sweden and Denmark, a balance has been obtained regarding male and female rights. In addition, they believe women within these societies are capable of acquiring any job that a man can perform. In 2023, a report that was issued from Stockholm’s fire department, stated that almost 46% of their workers are women. Although firefighting is considered to be a man’s job, the percentages were relatively close. Which some people would consider is a good indicator for gender equality achievement.
In contrast, many individuals think that even the most sophisticated countries still have a long way to go to claim that they provide gender equality. Furthermore, this group’s main belief is that equality is a vast term, which Includes, rights, equal pay, and most importantly similar Job opportunities. According to a study conducted in Finland, it appears that the HR offices were not encouraged to hire women, because in case of pregnancy, they will be absent for months and given a Paid maternity leave.
To conclude, it is obvious that some obstacles must be removed in order to ensure that females have equal rights to men, However, I hold an optimistic view regarding this matter, I believe that breakthroughs are being made and we might see major improvements in the near future.
