Nowadays, technological developments enable people to purchase various kinds of quality products, especially in food
industry. Some people claim that this is a positive shift for food production, while other people argue that it has negative effects on human health and natural environment. In this essay, I will explain my point of view by analyzing both sides of the argument.
On the one hand, improving food technology has lots of benefits for society. First of all, formers can produce crops that can grow bigger and faster in a short period of time using biotechnology like genetic modification. For example, genetically modified crops are more resistant to diseases or pests and produce large yields, thereby solving the starvation problem around the world for increasing population. This could be vital for food production in developing countries. Secondly, instant foodstuffs are made to last longer with technological improvements, which are beneficial for those who are busy, and they can be easily available in every market with a fair price.
On the other hand, technologyical advancements in food quality are harmful for society and natural ecosystem. As regards the first, in this modern world, people become addicted to processed and overflavoring food and this can result in chances of getting obesity, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, which was enhanced by their sedentary lifestyles. Furthermore, substituting organic products with genetically modified crops might change the whole ecosystem since pest-resistant crops can destroy food chain of the nature.
In conclusion, my personal view is that appreciable achievements outweigh in food manufacturing processes although there are some negative consequences. To solve this, government should restrict safety rules and regulations to food suppliers in order to reduce risks of consumers’ health.
