Nowadays, the quality of food and variety are becoming revolunation due to advanced technology and science. It is often argued that it is an improvement in farming , while others disagree and think that it has some negative effects. In my opinion, it can have positive development in food technology.
Many people distrust foods if the food is modified or processed. Most people prefer organic foods which are produced without chemicals. Especially, many older people do not want to eat processed foods because they easily get diseases from the modernised foods. Farming without fertilizers or pesticides is more environmentally friendly. There may be some risks involved in the genetic engineering of foods. Genetically modified crops might change the whole ecosystem. For instance, food chains could be broken if crops are resistant to predators.
Although there are some arguments, I would argue that it is a positive development in food technology. Farmers can produce crops that grow bigger and faster. This is because genetically modified crops may be more resistant to disease or insects. This could be vital for food production in developing countries. Faster growing cereals, fruit and vegetables will mean more profit. Food can be modified to look perfect and last longer, so that people can be attracted by the longer and fresh foods.
To conclude, there are different views on improvement in food technology because of technological and scientific advances. Although there are negative developments such as a broken food chain, I believe that there can be positive development in developing countries which rely on farming such as increasing food production.
