It is argued that governments spend huge amount of money to maintain old buildings worldwide, while this can be served for better infrastructure development of urban cities. I completely disagree with this claim and I believe we need to preserve heritage of our history.
First and foremost, these buildings are cities’ cultural and historical identity. They are the accessible evidence to the historical architecture and the history itself of various countries. By this, governments may benefit, as the interest of tourists and the population will be increased, resulting with significant profit to the governmental budget. Furthermore, old buildings make the cities unique and attractive. For example, the number of visitors is considerably high in these cities such as Paris, Rome, Prague and etc., as a result, their government mostly supports its economy through tourism.
Moreover, the preservation and restoration of old buildings have less harm to the environment. While constructing new housing, there is a significant amount of emissions and waste are produced, after which it can be thrown to the lakes and oceans. In addition, there are sustainable restoration programs that contributes to the maintenance. These are environmentally friendly technologies and materials, such as water recycling systems, solar panels and so on, which reduce the environmental impact while preserving historic buildings.
To conclude, the restoration of old buildings contributes cities to stand out among other cities, making them extraordinary and boosting tourists’ and the public’s attention, as they bring history to life. Also, this makes governments to be more eco-friendly and harm less to the environment.
