The growing use of social media has significantly influenced personal relationships as well as society in general. Although social networking platforms provide some benefits for communication, I believe that their disadvantages outweigh the advantages, particularly because they negatively affect people’s behaviour and productivity.
On the one hand, social media can help individuals stay informed about global events and adapt to modern trends. Social networking platforms allow users to access information instantly, which helps them remain aware of important issues happening around the world. For example, platforms such as Twitter enable people to follow breaking news and receive updates about political, economic, and social developments in real time. As a result, social media can improve people’s awareness of global events and make communication across countries easier.
On the other hand, the increasing popularity of social networking platforms can have negative effects on people’s behaviour and motivation. One major problem is that many individuals become addicted to these applications, which may reduce their patience and tolerance when interacting with others. Constant exposure to online arguments and controversial opinions can make people more aggressive in discussions and less willing to accept different viewpoints. In addition, excessive use of social media can significantly reduce productivity. Individuals who spend long hours scrolling through online content are easily distracted from their work or studies. For instance, students who frequently check their social media accounts while studying often struggle to concentrate and complete their assignments effectively.
In conclusion, although social media offers certain advantages such as quick access to global information, I believe that its disadvantages are more significant because it can negatively influence people’s behaviour and reduce their motivation to focus on important tasks.
