Until 2050, some people predict that the traditional relationships between teachers and students will disappear. I completely disagree with this view, although I believe that technology will change education for a number of reasons.
On the one hand, it is true that artificial intelligence may take over many teaching tasks, and it does not need a salary, so schools could use it as a free worker that available at any time. For example, AI tutors can explain topics, mark homework and answer the questions constantly. Consequently, some lessons may be run by machines, which carries major implications for the teaching profession.
On the other hand, I argue that teachers cannot be fully replaced, because education is more important than sharing information. Firstly, a machine cannot inspire or motivated students as well as teachers do. An encouraging word from a teacher could change a pupil’s attitude towards a subject. Secondly, if students learn from screens continuously, human relationships will weaken, and they may lose teamwork skills. As a result, many learners may become passive and approach lessons with less interest and incompetence.
In conclusion, although artificial intelligence may take the place of teachers in instructional activities by 2050, I do not believe that the traditional classroom will disappear. Teachers provide encouragement and human contact that technology is not able to offer, so the best future is where AI supports teachers rather than replaces them.
