Band 7+: The use of technology makes people less social. Do you agree or disagree

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, virtual world is more popular in society than real life. It is often argued that social media and internet, generally, killed real communication between people in physical life. Some parts of society claims that online sites has negative impact on humanity and it reduces connections, while other side thinks that it makes life more easier, faster and comfortable. Personally, i think that while cyberspace is entertaining and makes certain things more simple it is still problematic issue for socialization.

Firstly, the reason why technology and social platforms become an issue in the first place is that people spend most of their time on the internet “doomscrolling” instead of using their time for something valuable. Besides that, many individuals prefer to stay home and communicate through video calls or messages instead of going out and having real fun with real people. We can’t forget to mention that there are real cases where people in the same room often concentrate on their phones rather than talking to each other. Even when they are out of the house, especially teens, they still do not pay attention to the real world.

Secondly, digital media offers opportunities to entertain people enough to make them stay home and enjoy spending time by themselves doing absolutely nothing productive. These days, people can watch movies or series, make purchases online from anywhere, communicate through video or mobile calls, or even texts, play online games, and order DoorDash, all while staying indoors. On top of that, because of all these reasons, face-to-face communication has decreased significantly, and with that, chances to make new friends, maintain confidence in real life, build relationships, and grow personally are reducing.

To sum up, under these circumstances, I can say that the usage of the internet has caused socialization between people to collapse. Regardless of the benefits and advantages of the digital world, it has caused everyday life to lose its colors and charm. That is why we should balance its usage with real-life communication, relationships, and the physical world. It is essential to remember that we do not have enough time to waste it on the internet.
