It is argued that physical education and competitive sports should be compulsory for students until they finish secondary school. I completely agree with this view.
One major reason is that compulsory participation protects students’ physical fitness. Lifestyle of children, nowadays has changed and became sedentary, with long classes, followed by hours of screen time. Sometimes, if exercise is optional, the students who need it most are often the ones who avoid doing those exercises. As an example many children are struggling with obesity, mostly because of their lifestyle.
Another factor is development of important personal qualities. Team competitions demand cooperation and communication, because players in teams usually work and achieve success together. This is crucial when a team defeats, so students can learn from their mistakes instead of focusing on the bad. This can be seen in many professional tournaments, where players support each other and work on themselves. Consequently, this can contribute on adults to become responsible and calm not to make mistakes.
In conclusion, compulsory physical education and competitive sports strengthen students both physically and mentally.
