People have different views about whether children are put under too much pressure by advertisements. While it is reasonable that advertising delivers a positive message to children, I believe they are adversely influenced by adverts and strict restrictions on them should be imposed.
There are some reasons why advertisers claim that they provide useful information to children. Firstly, children can be provided with a great deal of information about various fields such as technology, art, science, and others, meaning they can gain fundamental knowledge about the world. This can also create a new interest via the media which can discover children’s talents as well as orienting their career. Secondly, some adverts encourage children to live a healthier life, thereby promoting better mental well-being. For instance, TV can display programs or podcasts discussing the detrimental effects of games, which advise children to do more outdoor activities instead of playing games.
However, I argue that children are put under too much pressure due to their inability to realize commercial advertising, hence some regulations should be introduced. Specifically, children have an inclination to follow the crowd, thus advertisers exploit this characteristic to boost their sales figures. In addition, advertisers usually use the images of children’s favorite characters to lure them into purchasing toys or snacks. Accordingly, children are likely to pester and demand their parents, leading to parent’s financial burden. Therefore, a legislation such as banning illegal advertising in cartoon should be imposed.
In conclusion, while some advertisements can be useful to children, I contend that children are put under too much pressure and some limits should be introduced.
