One of the first question a parent asks themselves”Should I sent my children to a mixed or single school?” There are some issues with co-education. Personally, I believe that beneficial single-gender education is better than co-ed one.
One of the vital reason is that pupils can develop self-confidence. Students have similar physical and intelligent condition, therefore they do not be shame because of running later than other classmates. For example, subconsciously think that girls usually are not good at math and games. When I had studied in the Jinhua Girls’ Junior Gigh School, there was no academic pressure to be quit in games during the period. I gained more confidence instead of making me felt ashamed of body changes.
Another crucial cause is that learning in single-gender schools can focus on academy. Students are not putting on make-up and dress-up to school. Their school time is about learning. The conversation becomes about study, not being liked. It ends in better academic outcome. Moreover, single-sex study can save resources for teachers and schools. Schools just need to prepare teaching materials in school curriculum for one gender students. It helps saving schools’ energy and costs.
In conclusion, although I think that the advantages of single-sex education outweigh the downsides. Undoubtedly, the real difference between co-gender and mixed schools is about pupils’ self development. No matter where young people study in, they must learn by themselves.
