A large proportion of products are rich in sugar which can result in severe issues related to health. In order to reduce the consumption of sugar, government should make this kind of products unaffordable. While there is some truth to this belief, I would find this idea rather short-sighted for some reasons, thereby diagreeing with it.
A rise in the prices of sugary products can be seen reasonable as they have become common among the public. This is because these products including fast food and frizzy drinks are quite affordable and can be found easily in any parts of the world, especially in cities. If prices of sugar based products are increased, people will try to limit their craves in order not to spent much money. For example, Canada where mostly overweight people live has reported that the level of obesity had decreased significantly after the increase in prices.
On the other hand, in my opinion, this idea could not be effective way to solve the problem for a number of reasons. One of them is that the prices of other essential products like vegetables and meat may rise along with sugary products, because inequal prices may pose concerns among people and encourage them to organize campaigns in streets. Another reason is that this measure can result in exfoliation between people. In other words, although the poor limit to purchase high-sugar products, rich people can have still chance. Not only can this result have impact on people, but also it can contribute to crisis of those countries.
To sum up, while making the prices of sugary products is widely accepted as effective way to discourage people from consuming them, I personally believe that it can pose several social problems like stratification.
