Band 5+: To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement: 'Individuals should have the right to own and use firearms for self-defense.' Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

A part of society concernes that people should have the opportunity to own and meanwhile, use firearms for self-defense. However, a part of the population believes that it will lead to adverse outcomes. From my perspective, the drawbacks of widespread gun usage will outweigh the benefits.

On the one hand, individuals will use weapons to defend themselves and family from thieves and murderers in the apartment and simultaneously, outdoors. Correspondingly, it will reduce the number of casualties and improve the way of arresting offenders. E.g., owing to the 2020 statistics in the USA, 55% of robberies ended up with at least one person killed. Furthermore, individuals who live in the countryside or in a village near a forest can preserve their property from wild animals. Hereby, nature lovers can protect themselves from predatory animals while relaxing or exploring nature.

On the other hand, the raising availability of firearms in society will lead ro increased amount of robberies. Consequently, the peasefulness in public will devastate. Moreover, it will demolish the governmental control of population and will enlarge the number of vulnerable people. Therefore, it will cause the growth of mafia and terrorist groups in the country. As a result, it will ruin the state’s national security and increase the threat to neighboring countries.

In conclusion, I would like to literally emphasize that, due to the above mentioned outcomes, individuals should not be allowed to acquire and use weapons for self-defense. Along with that, the state’s authorities should maintain saifty and peasefulness in public.
