Some people argue that individuals can do very little to help the environment, and only governments and large companies have the power to make real changes. I partly agree with this view. While the actions of governments and corporations are more powerful in many ways, individual efforts also play an important role in protecting the environment.
On the one hand, one person’s actions may seem too small to matter. For example, using a reusable bag or turning off lights when not needed might not seem like it makes a difference. However, if millions of people start doing these small things, the combined result can be huge. For instance, if everyone reduced their use of plastic bottles and bags, the amount of plastic waste would decrease a lot. In the same way, if each person planted one tree, this could help prevent floods, increase oxygen levels, and fight climate change over time.
On the other hand, governments and large businesses have the resources and authority to take action on a much bigger scale. They can create laws that stop pollution, protect forests, and control industries. For example, governments can support anti-poaching programs to protect endangered animals, or invest in clean energy to reduce carbon emissions. Big companies can also change how they produce goods and reduce waste in factories, which can have a large impact on the environment.
In conclusion, even though individual efforts are valuable and can lead to change, the influence of governments and large companies is much stronger. A combined approach is necessary to solve serious environmental problems effectively.
