Band 6+: Today more and more people are using mobile phones and computers. Thus, people are losing the ability to communicate face to face. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, more and more people use mobile phones and computers in their daily lives. Some people believe that this trend is reducing face-to-face communication skills. I partly agree with this opinion because technology can weaken direct interaction, although it also helps people stay connected in many ways.

On the one hand, excessive use of technology can reduce people’s ability to communicate face to face. Firstly, many individuals spend too much time texting or using social media instead of having real conversations. As a result, they may become less confident in direct communication. Secondly, people who rely heavily on online interaction may find it difficult to develop important social skills such as eye contact and active listening. For example, many teenagers prefer chatting online rather than talking with family members or friends in person.

On the other hand, mobile phones and computers can also improve communication in certain situations. Firstly, technology allows people to keep in touch regardless of distance. Secondly, online platforms make communication faster and more convenient for work and study. For instance, video calls help families and colleagues communicate effectively even when they live far apart.

In conclusion, I believe that modern technology has reduced face-to-face communication to some extent. However, if people use it wisely, mobile phones and computers can still bring many benefits to communication.
