In this modern era, the increase in the use of mobile phones and computers undermines peoples’ capability to socialize with others in real life. I totally agree with this view for some reasons provided below.
To begin with, the excessive use of advanced technology will result in heightened social anxiety, making it difficult for them to meet other people in person. This can be explained by the fact that using electronic equipment such as phones and computers for communication does not require users to display their authentic identity. For example, people tend to set up fake profile pictures for their social media accounts to avoid being judged by others. As a result, they will foster their insecurity in the long run, thereby preventing themselves from striking up face-to-face conversations with people.
Furthermore, people are becoming more addicted to smartphones and computers, reducing their time for physical meetings with their friends in real life. Particularly, the majority of individuals nowadays dedicate their valuable time to electronic devices for various purposes such as surfing Tiktok, playing games, or chatting with friends. For instance, some people even spend a whole day watching movies without talking to others. This will gradually weaken their ability to use language and confidence in interacting with their counterparts face-to-face. Consequently, they lose their capability to speak fluently or simply make eye contact with other people.
In conclusion, I totally agree that the prolonged use of smartphones and computers can erode peoples’ communication skills in person due to the increase in social insecurity and the addictive behavior stemming from advanced technology.
