Since more and more people are becoming dependent on online services, they have to keep their private details online. I firmly believe that this development is negative one, given the increased risk of cybercrime and privacy concerns.
Firstly, the main problem is that valuable personal information becomes vulnerable. Although saving phone numbers or addresses can facilitate entry when people use e-commerce platforms, like Amazon and Alibaba, this leads to it being a source of data for hackers. They can possess important tools to use against users to make financial frauds, steal money from plastic cards, and threaten people by disturbing calls or breaking in. As a result, people suffer from widespread data breaches both financially and socially.
Secondly, companies and firms may misuse individuals’ personal details for marketing purposes without permission. When people share information during banking and shopping operations, companies compile massive databases about individuals, including their interests, habits, and preferences, which is beneficial for targeted recommendations and advertisements. While some people find this useful, most users see it as an invasion of privacy.
In conclusion, posting details on the internet in order to buy products, transfer money, and communicate causes encounters with threats from both cybercriminals and the companies they trust with their information.
