Nowadays, there is a point of view that an inappropriate amount of money is spent on the reconstruction of old buildings instead of demolishing them and building new ones. In my opinion, the preservation of old buildings is essential, especially today, because their existence helps us to remember the history of our country and share it with the world, consequently inviting more foreign tourists annually.
To start with, the old constructions are the most accurate image of cultural identity of the country. They present our values, history, and sometimes what kind of people who live here. Moreover, the old buildings play a huge role in art and literature. In schools all over the world students can learn about various cultures through reading about old attractions or looking at their pictures. Furthermore, ancient constructions keep a history about ancient civilizations that no longer exist. For example, thanks to Machu Picchu we have a chance to know and learn aboutI Incas. Therefore, demolishing old buildings will lead to loss of their historical value.
To continue with, thousands of people visit foreign countries to have a look at old attractions that are popular all over the world. For instance, a lot of tourists come to France to see the Eiffel Tower in person or they want to have a trip to Saint-Petersburg and take a photo with the Hermitage. This not only adds value to the cultural heritage, but thanks to tourists, the country’s economy can get a huge boost. So, the old buildings can increase the country’s appeal among travelers.
In conclusion, despite the fact that nowadays people start to give preference to new modern buildings, I am still convinced that they can never replace old ones for their historical value ,therefore, we need to find a way to balance the past with the present in our cities.
