Many students are faced with the dilemma of whether to stay on campus or at home with their parents. From my perspective, I personally believe that staying in a dormitory has more potential benefits for the long-term development of the students.
It is a common belief that living with the parents is better for the student’s development. Particularly, students living at home may fully concentrate on their academic studies because their parents are likely to support them in various ways, such as by doing household tasks. However, I think they may become more reliant on their parents, so it is hard for them to enhance an independent life in the future when they are able to get a job. By contrast, those who decide to create a life far from the care of nurturing people by moving to stay on campus are able to easily thrive in a dynamic environment. It means that a campus environment nurtures the student’s evolving worldview or extracurricular interests. For instance, college students living close to school facilities connect with classmates through campus activities and events.
On top of that, by living on campus, students minimize the stress of commuting and easily access classrooms and other facilities as well. Another benefit is that students actively create more opportunities to socialize with their peers and build more intimate networks when engaging in diverse campus groups. However, they have to pose challenges when sharing facilities with their roommates, which also leads to a lack of privacy.
In conclusion, it creates many merits when staying in a dormitory compared to staying at home with parents.
