These days tourism plays a huge role in the world and the economy of many countries. Some people are persuaded that the tourism sector favours international communication, nevertheless I believe there are certain limitations and challenges, and I will support my view with arguments in the following paragraphs.
Firstly, overcrowding that commonly happens during the vacations and warm seasons annoys both tourists and local people and leads to pollution. For instance, the increased number of tourists visiting Paris resulted in the roadside litter left on the central streets, furthermore, a rise in the tourist scams and frauds. Maintaining of cleanness and total security in the cities requires financial and human resources, that are difficult to provide sufficiently during the tourist seasons, therefore impressions of guests can be spoiled, while local community is irritated by the amount of trash. These cases demonstrate disappointment and distrust between tourists and local community.
Another reason to have some doubt in this idea is the specifics of a tourist infrastructure. It is discussed that tourism encourages international understanding and experience exchanging. However, big popular resorts witness to the contrary: tourists spend their money within the hotels, without contributing to local native community and facing its real life conditions. Furthermore, the hotel chains are mostly international, for example, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and in this case, tourism contributes to globalization, that threatens the preservation of unique traditions and locations.
Thus, tourism is a considerable economic sector that allows people to understand each other’s cultures, but at the same time has the negative aspects due to its specifics and constant high popularity of travel trips. Therefore, tourism is not always a force for good.
