Nowadays, the development of tourism is rising more and more rapidly in remote areas around the world. This essay will elaborate the advantages and disadvantages behind this issue and discuss whether the advantages of tourism in far regions outweigh the advantages.
To commence with, the two main benefits which will be received from tourism in outskirt areas are related to economic and cultural sectors. First of all, tourism probably yields a positive implication to boost the state of the economy. This is inextricably enmeshed by the fact that tourism hugely attracts visitors around the globe to enjoy their time for holiday in that area. Automatically, job opportunities for local people will possibly open directly because people are able to sell merchandise for all tourists or provide an aesthetic hotel for tourists. Secondly, tourism in remote areas may be used as a strategy for local people to deploy their own culture or their local heritage to foreigners, such as dances, paintings, sculptures, or local food. This is because many tourists would come to enjoy their holiday in that place and local people are in condition to interact with those directly.
Yet, tourism in far areas also has some negative implications. The assumption is based on the inevitable reality that such a circumstance will potentially damage the environment. That condition happens because opening new areas for tourism tends to cut down a vast number of trees in the forest which is the natural habitat for many endemic creatures like wild animals or rare plants. Moreover, tourism in remote regions has the possibility to clash with local culture or tradition. For example, tourists coming from western countries usually wear bikinis when those are on the beach. The problem is that clothes are not suitable for a country like Indonesia which consists of Islamic people. If all visitors enjoy their holiday on beaches around Indonesia with wearing bikinis, it, therefore, can be clashed by local culture. However, by having a proper regulation created by policy makers to guarantee opening new areas will consider the natural habitat and protect local tradition, it can tackle the disadvantages as well.
In conclusion, although tourism in far areas has plus points not only related to economy, but also about a strategy to campaign local culture, it has to be perceived that the issue has minus points like damaging the environment and the clash of local heritage. Nevertheless, I believe that these benefits outweigh its drawbacks.
