Traffic on roads has become an issue in almost every country in the world. I believe that the amount of traffic can be reduced by creating flexible working hours at a society level, and by increasing the usage of public transport than that of private vehicles at an individual level.
Flexible working hours mean that people of different occupations will go and comeback from their work at various different times. While doctors go to work at 7 am, other kind of workers like police officers will do the same thing but at 6 am. This will also apply to leaving hours, possibly easing the heavy traffic both during the morning and afternoon. For example, this same technique was implemented in Namangan, a city well known for its traffic problems, and the result was astonishing. The city that used to be full of vehicles moving along roads, then became congestion-free with cars moving freely and smoothly on the same roads.
At an individual level, the amount of traffic can be reduced if one limits oneself from driving their own vehicle and goes for public transport. The reason is if people use their private vehicles, most of the time a car that can fit five people, will travel with just one or two people. Conversely, if they use public transport, they take up only a particular number of seats they need (instead of three unused seats, there will be none, possibly increasing the available space on roads). For example, in China people were forced to use public transport for a day, which then clearly resulted in increased space on the roads and reduced traffic.
Having weighed everything mentioned up,we can come to a conclusion that, society can come up with flexible working hours while individuals can stop using their private vehicles and start using public transportation to reduce the amount of traffic on roads.
