The recent era has been ostenstibly marked by impressive progress in transport facilities, exponential growth of air traffic and easy access to affordable travel packages.Yet, this newly emergent trends have resulted in a unprecedented flow of tourists and travellers, a phenomenon, boradly referred to, as Mass tourism or overtourism. Given the large scale depredations that can be linked with overtourism, it is incumbent upon the goverment to put into effect an alternative strategy for durable tourism and place caps on the number of visitors during peak seasons.
To begin, states alongside decision makers have to allocate funds, logistical resources and efforts to promote eco-tourism as an alternative for mass tourism. Given the criticality of the ecological situation and the ever escalating pollution effect, goverments are now faced with the new reality of revamping their touristic sectors into an enviromentally sustainble model that curates responsible consumptions and mitigates carboon footprints. For isntance, this initiative has been superheaded by many nations, such as Swiss state that has allocated huge fundings to accommodate off grid sourcing for many hospitality facilities as an alternative to fuel based sources.
Furthermore, another viable action that has to be devised by mass tourism nations is to deploy systemic caps on travellers entries during peak seasons so as to curb the detrimental impacts that this flux of arrivals might entail. These restrictions are to safeguard many threatened resorts from heavy footfall and keep its resultant risks at bay. As a matter of fact, many historical sites are declared as potentially joepardised by the Alecso and nations are called upon to reduce footfall through placing cap schemes. These measures, if duly and aptly applied, are likely to mitigate the environmental effect of mass tourism.
To conclude, mass tourism, despite its merits economically speaking, it posits various challenges and entails numerous downsides. Hence, policy makers are held accountable for implementing an action plan to minimize its effects.
