Recently, it has been commonly accepted that universities should allocate funding to a variety of areas. Some people argue that they should allocate the same amount of money to students’ sports activities as to their libraries. In my opinion, I disagree with this.
First of all, the libraries can be used by many students. This means that learners and teachers need a place where they can focus on studying. For example, students can stay in a study room in the library, especially during exams. In addition, aside from using books, they can get access to free Wi-Fi, copy machines, and computers. Moreover, the atmosphere is perfect for concentration and comfort. Therefore, libraries are very useful to every student.
Furthermore, libraries contribute more to career development. Most students do some research in the library to complete the assignment to class. Many professions require that strong research, and deep thinking skills, which libraries help to develop.
However, not many students are interested in sports. Allocating equal funding to sports may disadvantage students who rely on academic resources. In my experience, while I used a gym as I joined a dance team in my university, many friends haven’t used the any sports facilities even they spent six years. If I were in their position and same amount of money was allocated to sports activities, I would feel it is not fair at all.
Indeed, it is important to do some exercise to keep being healthy but education should be the main focus. Therefore, universities should allocate more money to libraries than sports activities.
