Nowadays, there is a growing debate regarding university students focusing on one specific major. Some people believe that doing so may enhance their career path, while others argue that exploring more subjects, not related to the major, is crucial as well. In my opinion, students should not only prioritize their major, but also include other areas of study, since it may be advantageous to their creativity skills and world-view mindset.
On the one hand, focusing directly on a specific major may be beneficial in terms of retaled career opportunities. Specifically, university students will have more time for their education to dive deeper into their area of study, since there will not be any extra classes to attend or assignments to submit. Thus they will not be distracted by other subjects, resulting in more time for studying. In addition, engineering and computer science related placements only require STEM(science technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills. Therefore, art, for example, related knowledge will not be placed into an account.
On the other hand, exploring various unrelated subjects, such as art, music, and history, may positively affect as well. Especially, discovering something new from various majors that could not be witnessed during usual education leads to pupils’ creativity skills advancements. Since studying new subjects requires discovering themselfes from the other perspective, pupils will think out of their scope enhancing their world-view mindset and creative thinking.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that pupils should prioritize focusing on other subject as well as their main major, since it requires thinking out of their scope, which is beneficial for their daily life.
