Nowadays, many youngsters use their gadgets almost every day. Although, there are a lot of benefits of being online, I believe that there are serious drawbacks as well.
To begin with, using a computer daily can have a few positive effects on the children’s development. Firstly, the Internet is an excellent source for self-learning. It allows children all over the world to gain knowledge about history, science, music, art and other intriguing subjects with no strings attached and even find new hobbies. Secondly, while surfing the Internet youngsters may benefit from learning languages as the majority of the content online is in English. Moreover, children may join online communities and connect with people who share similar tastes and hobbies. These virtual friends can provide support and help each other out.
On the other hand, being chronically online can seriously damage children’s health and affect their self-esteem. Daily scrolling can negatively influence children’s nervous systems and their ability to concentrate on more important tasks. In addition, young people often have no control over the content they consume online and may therefore be influenced by potentially harmful ideas. For instance, social media can promote unhealthy beauty standards and make teenagers obsessed with their appearance. Also, while browsing the Internet, youngsters can be exposed to explicit content or even become victims of online scammers.
In conclusion, although the Internet can stimulate children’s curiosity, improve their ability to think and search for the information, I believe that parents should always be there to guide their children and control the amount of time they spend online.
