It is true that walking plays an important role in improving people’s health; however, this activity is decreasing these days. This problem can be attributed to many factors, and there are a number of workable solutions that should be adopted to deal with it.
There are many compelling reasons why people are walking less nowadays. One of the main causes is the appearance of various modern transportations. For example, big cities such as Ha Noi or Ho Chi Minh are famous for the convenience of public vehicles, taxi and individuals transport which make it easier for citizen to move around. As a result, more and more people prioritized speed and saving time by replacing walking with other kinds of vehicles which discourage walking. Another plausible explanation for the decline in walking is the lack of sufficient spaces, such as parks and walking trails. In many urban areas, rapid urbanization has led to a reduction in green spaces. Consequently, there is less accessible space for people to develop the habit of walking.
A number of effective measures are available to address this thorny issue. Firstly, companies can promote walking day for their employees, which can result in regular activities among workers and also keep them healthier. For instance, Nagakawa, a technology corporation in Viet Nam organized a weekly running day and also rewarded the fastest person with 5 million in cash and a medal. A second measure would be for the government to prioritize the creation of new parks, walking trails, and green spaces within urban areas, especially in densely populated neighborhoods. Therefore, more people would have access to safe and inviting areas for walking.
In conclusion, the decline in the number of people walking can be explained by several factors, which can be addressed by implementing these measures simultaneously.
