The number of people watching movies and TV shows where the main theme is crime is increasing, which means that they are becoming more and more popular. This interest, in my opinion, is related to the fact that the watchers’ lives may be too quiet, because of which they want to replenish their adrenaline by watching films and shows. This phenomenon can cause a rise in cruelty among the population or, conversely, warn them about it, as a result of seeing much violence on TV.
Firstly, this rise in the popularity of TV shows and movies about crime may be caused by the too boring and quiet lives of the people watching them. For example, most office workers have nothing interesting in their work, which in turn takes up most of their lives. As a result, after coming home, when their usual everyday plan is finished, people want some strong emotions; they want to feel something except boredom, something that raises adrenaline in their blood, and films are the only support in this. Watching a film or movie about crime makes people feel as if they are inside the screen and lets them experience everything that the heroes are experiencing.
As for the consequences it has on society, there are plenty. First of all, people are used to repeating everything they see on TV, so it can work two ways. Someone can commit a crime for himself because the individual already knows how it works. For instance, people will try to rob a bank because, in their minds, there are already many uncaught robbers, also an enormous number of killers who are at large. But, as I said, it may work two ways, so the phenomenon can also help people avoid such situations and stay intact. Many children are now warned that they should not believe every adult on the street; pensioners are aware of scammers calling as bank managers, wanting to help them.
In general, the growing popularity of crime-related TV shows is caused by the boringness of the lives of many people who watch them. The effects that this phenomenon has are two-sided; on the bad side, it means that it can raise the violence level among people and, on the good side, the number of victims may go down.
