In today’s society there are plenty of things that have developed throughout the years, including the growth of mass communication. The way we interact with one another has totally shifted comparing to days when our grandparents were still young.
The incorporation of technology has transformed mass communication in certain ways that benefits the community. Nowadays, we can easily contact our loved ones, regardless how far the distance is. For that reason, most people tend to be less afraid to reach for their dreams since it eliminates the phenomenon of ‘home sick’ and we can get the affection from our support system while working on our ambitions such as studying abroad at the same time.
While the involvement of technology has made keeping in touch with one another more attainable, there is one crucial factor that’s considered as one of the disadvantages which is the risk of data leak. People mainly communicate through social media and the majority of them post their daily activities online. We also often being asked to insert personal information such as date of birth, location, or even id card number every time we create a profile account. Though, most applications have their cyber security team, we can’t overlook the fact that data stealing is quite common and we shouldn’t put too much information of ourselves if it’s not necessarily needed.
However, as long as we can use and acknowledge both the pros and cons of the growth and involvement of technology in mass communication, the risk of facing its disadvantages will likely decrease.
