It is argued by many that governments must obligate employers to hire an equal number of male and female candidates. Personally, I agree with this opinion, and I will explain why.
Firstly, in the sexist society that we live in, it has been proven in several researches that men get employed way more than women, on account of the employers’ internalized misogyny making them think that women are not as qualified as men. Secondly, with the increasing cases of sexual misconduct in workplace during the past years, women, especially women who were victims of these misbehaviors, would definitely feel safer in workplaces with equal number of male and female employees. For instance, it can be confirmed by a lot of female workers that being the minority in the workplace can affect the way male colleagues behave towards them, not only in the sense of sexual harassment, but also generally respecting them as a co-worker. Many women claim that in enterprises and companies with very few female colleagues, male colleagues did not see them as actual workers of that enterprise even though they were doing the exact same job.
I do understand why some might not agree with this law saying it would not bring us real equality, I do agree with the fact that this might not be the best way to achieve gender equality in workplace, but I personally do not think that this law would make the inequality any worse than what it is now, and therefore I agree with the idea.
