It has become widespread for children to spend hours in front of the screen rather than playing outside and socializing. There are both benefits and drawbacks to this trend, and I am aiming to outline them in the following paragraphs.
On the one hand, the reasons behind this phenomenon are varied, such as improvement of literacy and development of critical thinking. Firstly, it is common to see how youngsters learn language through reading books and writing, and television is not an exception. Children can develop language acquisition by watching and listening to conversations between movie characters. Secondly, there are a number of TV programs specially designed for them. It was proven by many scholars that by having watched TV shows, the development of problem-solving skills, both IQ growth and nervous system enhancement, could be observed.
On the other hand, there are many points why exposing kids to excessively watching TV may be harmful, as it can cause social isolation and addiction. Initially, children may give preference to watching TV and playing video games instead of interacting with others. This is because they enter a comfort zone and have underdeveloped soft skills, which in the future manifest in a lack of confidence and being cut off from society. Furthermore, TV stimulates the brain system to produce the hormone of happiness called “dopamine”; however, the lower quality means that huge doses are needed to make individuals feel good. A person can become accustomed to the constant flow of this hormone, and other activities that are, in fact, engaging may seem dull. Hence, young people will always watch television and be of the opinion that it is more interesting, which also leads to lower performance at school.
In conclusion, there are both merits and disadvantages, like good opportunities for children to evolve and apathy due to constant dopamine hormone release
