There exists a widely-held belief that when moving to a new nation, it is essential for us to understand and respect the local customs and traditions of the host country. From my perspective, I partly agree with this view on account of the reasoning presented below.
Admittedly, there are valid arguments supporting the idea that obeying the customs and traditions is necessary when people start to live in a new country. Firstly, immigrants should follow the customs and traditions of their new country to avoid various problems. In fact, they risk being seen as disrespecting the cultural values of the locals if they do not adhere to the customs and culture of the new society, which could cause friction and conflict. Second, people who do not accept and understand the new ways of living when migrating abroad may feel confused, stressed and depressed. As a result, these people are more likely to struggle with culture shock and other culture-related problems, leading to pressure and various mental problems.
Despite these considerations, I maintain that people should preserve the customs and traditions of their own country for several reasons. First, immigrants should not abandon their native cultural values when moving to a new culture in order to maintain the cultural identity of their country. Therefore, it is better for migrants to maintain their own cultural values and make the necessary adjustments to the new culture. Second, colonizers bring cultural diversity to host countries so that local people have the opportunity to learn more about the many lifestyles and cultures of individuals from other parts of the world. Contributing to cultural integration between countries, so people will become more open-minded and comfortable when sharing about their cultural traditions.
In conclusion, while migrants should maintain the customs and traditions of their home countries in order to preserve their historical identity, it is my firm conviction that they should adapt to the culture and manners of the locals to blend in with others and feel a sense of belonging a new nation.
