The world population is higher than ever before, much due to the advancement in medicine and agriculture. This has led to some people thinking that by leveraging genetically modified foods, this increasing demand of food can be solved. I agree to an extent and will give my reasoning in the following paragraphs.
The advancement in science, especially obsetrics, geriatrics, and prominantly, pathology has increased the global population and also the average lifespan of people. As such, resources, especially food are straining to meet these rising needs. This can be solved by genetically modifying not only plant sources, but also the livestock kept for husbandary. In a way, humans have already been nurturing edible vegetation for milleniums to increase their taste, total produce and nutritional values. Genetical modification, according to certain scientists, is just increasing the precision and reducing the timeframe to introduce these changes in a more efficient manner. The advantages have already made themselves evident – better resilence to pests and adverse enviornment, higher nutritional value and produce.
On the other hand, some scientists point to these modifications as the err of trying to conquer the nature. The increasing cases of alzheimer’s disease and dementia in older generations and horrible escalation of cancers are thought to be the consequences. Even in dairy, these changes are reflected in the avaracious practice of alteration of the bodies of cows to increase their milk and meat, disregarding the trasgressions on their wellbeing.
In conclusion, while genetical modification can temporary fulfill the needs of the populance, its long-term effects on all the aspects of humanity, from mental to economical changes should be taken into account. This ability can be a boon or bane, depending on human wisdom or hubris.
