As the cities become more and more populated, many people have to live in small homes that lack outdoor spaces. Personally, this is a completely negative development in terms of people’s well-being.
The first problem that people living in this kind of home face is the decline in their physical health.
As these homes have no garden or even a grass field, their owners are hindered from being exposed to any natural stimulations, such as germs or dirt. Although at first glance it may appear to be a positive aspect, this lack of exposure to nature can reduce the function of individuals’ immune systems, inhibiting them from getting accustomed to any bacteria or dirt. Therefore, whenever people living in houses that lack outdoor space suffer from illnesses caused by bacteria, it might be significantly worse than in people whose immune system that are used to the illnesses’ culprits.
Moreover, individuals who occupy these homes may also suffer from mental problems. According to scientific research, exposure to nature can relieve anxiety and stress effectively. As these two mentally adverse phenomena are getting more common in the modern world due to an overcompetitive workplace, school, and arguably a less sympathetic community, exposure to outdoor space simultaneously becomes more essential. Therefore, being inhibited from exposing to natural places could make these two common mental issues become more severe, potentially evolving into isolation or even depression.
In conclusion, this tendency of people living in homes that do not have garden space is completely harmful to the health of their occupants since it weakens people’s immune systems and makes them more vulnerable to serious mental issues.
