Rise in the usage of social media has caused many youth to experience mental health problems . This essay is going to further explain the causes and solutions to this issue.
Social media plays a huge role in the lifes of young people . It’s a space where people tend to show their best side of life. Although this may not seem harmfull at first , it creates an false identity among followers. Celebrities and influencers display their perfect images online which can cause the rise of many insecurities and body shaming among youth. This places a step for unrealistic and inhumane standards. It also promotes negative feelings such as jealousy , envy and self hatred which can in turn effect the people around them. Due to these several reasons we can see an increase in anxiety and depression among youngsters.
To create a change in recent unhealthy trends , influencers and celebrities could be advised to promote body positivity and share real negative and positve experiences faced in their self growth so that their audience can truly connect with them. Adolescences should reduce their screen time and should be advised to spend more time outdoors with children their age. The internet is not 100% real and so campaigns and institutes can emphasize this to the younger generation. Youth can also take part in mental health programmes so as to spread awareness among thier peers.
In the end of the day our focus should not be on the bits and pieces of the glamorous life shown across the internet or the unatural procedures to attain the perfect body but to simply be able to share your good and bad times as well as being aware of what is real and wahat is not.
