In the contemporary society, small local shops find it challenging to compete with supermarkets and online shops. This trend has influence local residents positively and negatively. To improve this phenomenon, government and local authorities should take it into consideraion
On the one hand, it is undeniable that large supermarkets and online shops provide citizens with covenient ways of shopping. In the past, people’s shopping relied on small local shops and had lack of product choices. However, with the intensive investment in shopping facilities and the advance of technology, residents had a plenty of goods to choose from. Moreover, people just need a technological devices like smartphones or laptops to buy suitable products, unlike in the past, they had to go to the local stores to purchase items. Viet Nam is a prime example, shopping was very challenging for local people because stores were limited, but these days, the way people shopping is easier and more comfortable with many supermarkets as well as various shopping apps. This phenomenon has changed the way people purchase items.
On the other hand, despite its merits, consumers may be shopaholics. They may buy unnecessary products which leads to a narrow budget. Additionally, the image of items can be fake. Supermarkets and online shops have a harmful markerting ways, they often display their goods with suitable conditions but bad in quality and a combination of various colours in label to attract people. Whereas, local stores serves people with real quality of products, consumers do not need to worry about the purchased items.
To eliminate the disparity between local stores and supermarkets as well as online shops, government need to enact some proper policy in labelling systems such as supermarkets and online shops have to pay for taxes because the fake quality of products. Furthermore, local authorities should raise people’s awareness about the negative consequences which occur in supermarkets and online shops.
In conclusion, although it is difficult for small local shops compete with online shops and supermarkets, there are some effective approaches such as local stores should provide consumers with more choices of products for them or display some eye-catching advertisements in order to attract more purchasers.
