In my opinion, I think it is very significant to learn the culture and history of the country where one is living. It benefits in numerous ways. In this essay, I will share my reasons to support my answer.
Understanding culture not only helps in breaking the ice between different communities, but also develops respect. When people see foreigners learning their traditions, they become more open to accepting them in their society. While learning other cultures, people not only become more open, but also get close to their own cultural values. For example, my friend while living in his own country, never used to celebrate local festivals until he moved out to Australia. When he saw how Australians celebrate their culture, he started giving value to his own tradition and started celebrating it too.
Moreover, understanding local people culture and history may allow foreigners to quickly integrate in the society. This can help them in making strong connections which can lead them to getting a good high paying job in the market. Talking from my personal experience, my cousin when moved to Canada, he participated in local community workshops which allowed him to make meaningful connections and in few months, he was able to land a job in his profession. Unlike other immigrants who were not very much comfortable in socializing with the local communities, found difficult to land even odd jobs.
In conclusion, I believe, when people move to a new country, they should be open to embrace the new culture and respect that country history, provided that they also value their own cultural values.
