Academic studies demands a lot from young students. This lead the public opinion to think that non-academic branches of study, such as physical education and gastronomy, should be taken out from education programs so that children can focuse more on intellectual tasks.
To begin with, we must say that all course of studies have their own importance and if they are teached in our educational system is because also this abilities are requested in our society and at work. In fact, without subjects like domestic economy or gym class at school, we will grow up without the correct knowledge of basic-living and taking care of us and our home or without the correct psychomotor proficiency that, in fact are learned at young ages.
For instance studies have shown that psycho-motorial abilities, such as equilibrium or coordination, and the self-consciuosness of ourselves and our body are all abilities that are learned at young ages and if we will delete from school programs, it could have very strong consequences on our health and the one of our future children
However, it is well known that this capabilities are not so requested in job world and someone could think that it is a wasre of time focusing on them. I can agree in part with them and I would propose the solution of maybe focusing more on other subjects, but still without eliminating them, since they are soo imprtant for various aspects of our lives.
To sum up, while academic success is important, it is equally essential for young people to have a well-rounded education that includes non-academic subjects like physical education and domestic science such as culinary science.
