Band 7+: Write an essay of about 350 words to express your opinion on the following issue (30 pts) Schools are no longer necessary because children can get so much information available through the Internet, and they can study just as well at home. Along with the advances of technology, children can learn a lot through the internet, in addition to the conventional way, which has led to many people dismissing schools as unnecessary. As far as I am concerned, I am in complete disagreement with the idea above, as there are countless other aspects that schools offer to children that the internet itself does not.

There are several reasons why I think the idea of learning at school should not be abandoned. Firstly, schools, beside educating students on abstract knowledge, also teach us about morality and discipline. By forcing them to toe the line at the rules, such as going to school on time, being polite to older people, and filing punishments if the rules have been breached, schools can successfully shape children’s behaviors and discipline in a positive way. This is very necessary for children to prepare themselves when they step into the real world where they are required to be completely on their own with consequences waiting for them when something wrong is done. Secondly, schools provide children with a sense of companionship from friends. A friend is what an individual needs when it comes to being cheered up, having funs, and especially having someone to compete with in terms of education. All of these aforementioned factors create a perfect environment for the youth to improve themselves both academically and emotionally.

On the other hand, students who learn through the internet can experience a myriad of adverse effects. To begin with, home-schoolers lack proper instruction in comparison with their counterparts who go to school. Although the internet has been developed to a point where it is able to perform numerous features, a proper guidance is probably not what it can offer students. This is pretty evident, as it can be seen through our experience of learning on the internet. We struggle to search for a solution of a problem, as not all people have the exact same issue as we do all the time. Unlike the traditional approach of going to school, experienced teachers can be more flexible when it comes to solving various questions and can give children suitable explanations and guide them through everything, they need to know to help them grasp the knowledge more effectively. However, studying supplementarily through the internet should be adopted to assist children in more thorough understanding in case of superficial grasping of knowledge at class.

In conclusion, my view is that learning at school is an effective approach with sufficient enhancements in children’s faces, such as discipline and academic performance. However, combining it with additional self-studying at home can result in better outcomes.
