In contemporary era, university education still plays an undoubtable role in the life and career of young people. While the traditional methods of entering a university still work out smoothly, there exists a contention of the inclusion of international foreign language certificates into the admission of students into university. This essay contends that whereas the acquisition of language certificates is actually in people’s interests, it simultaneously poses problems to others as well.

To begin with, in the era of globalization and integration into the world, a good command of multiple languages unquestionably enhances the efficacy of the development of a society, and a country as a whole. This knowledge serves as an invaluable bridge so that people can cooperate alongside with instantaneous communication. As a result, entry into university with international foreign language certificates as a criterion may be beneficial for universities since they possess potential students for further steps in the future.

Moreover, given the harshness of acceptance into some universities might engender a host of challenges to a group of people, language certificates as one of the criteria for admission can be conducive for students who could barely meet the standards of entry. As a result, these students can live up to their ambition, and pursue the prestigious universities they dream of.

In addition, students accepted in this way may gain an advantage over those who try their best to enter these schools, as a consequence of their being favored with language certificates. However, the problem of lacking in certain qualities may crop up during their study, since these students might be below-average students and oftentimes find it hard to keep up with students with high academic abilities besides having their language ability.

In conclusion, despite the provided merits of language certificates, whether it should be enlisted as one of the criteria for university’s entry is still a subject of contention. In my opinion, while the disparities between students accepted into university by one way or another can gradually be noticeable in the long run, it is imperative to strike a balance between including language certificates and traditional criteria of acceptance in order to foster the potential of a much wider range of highly capable students.
