It is essential to take public money to encourage a healthy lifestyle rather than spending it on the treatment of those who are already afflicted. In my opinion, I totally agree with this statement and I will discuss my reason in the essay below.
First of all, there are several reasons why spending public money to promote healthy lifestyles instead of treating people suffering from illnesses. The first reason is that people want to improve their quality of life, so this mindset is valid. For example, encouraging healthy habits such as exercise, eating a balanced diet, and avoiding smoking can lead to a better quality of life and longer life expectancy. Furthermore, because of the reduction in medical costs, this activity is rational. For instance, prevention reduces overall healthcare costs because treating advanced stages of diseases like cancer and diabetes is much more expensive.
Besides this, due to cost-effectiveness, investing in initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles should take precedence over spending on the medical care of individuals suffering from existing illnesses. Namely, prevention is often cheaper than cure. Promoting a healthy lifestyle can prevent chronic diseases (such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity) that are expensive to treat. Moreover, on account of educating and workforce development, prioritizing the expenditure on fostering a healthier population is more effective than focusing financial resources on curing diseases in those already affected. To illustrate, investing in training health workers and health educators can create professionals who can communicate information about healthy lifestyles effectively. This can increase the ability to prevent disease and improve public health.
In conclusion, although it is important to dedicate them to treating patients with existing health conditions, I strongly agree that promoting a healthy lifestyle is noticeable owing to the purpose of improving lifestyle and the reduction in medical costs.
