Most children in East Nusa Tenggara experince bullying in their school or community. Nowadays, bullying is one of serious cases that children face. Australian Human Rights Commission depicts bullying as the activity when people repeatedly and intentionally use words or actions to harm people and cause distress and risk to their wellbeing. Then, research by Save the Children Indonesia discovered that 92 percent of children are exposure of bullying, and 37 percent go through physical violence when becoming a victim of bullying. For this reason, this essay aims to explore the problem of bullying in East Nusa Tenggara and the solutions.
Firstly, lack of awareness and education of bullying which leads children in East Nusa Tenggara do not even realize they are bullying someone. This happen because of the community build the culture to make a joke for people weaknesses. For instance, when they make a joke about someone physic and the person become angry, they can judge you as the person who is too serious. And they can say “it’s a joke” but the people might become insecure with his or her physics. I believe this is caused of the people do not knowledge about the mental health and bullying.
Therefore, I believe the solutions to break the cycle of bullying are everyone in society must take action. I think it is did not enough for parental angagement, but all of the people in the community around the children. One of the community that i need to highlight is religious institutions. For example, local churches and religious leader by their teachings and activity can promote the message of kindness. They can speak out to against bullying and encourage peaceful. It can influence the children to learn about kindness and do not judge other people. It can break the negative culture of bullying.
In conclusion, all of the elemen of society have together to against the bullying. The education community can help to encourage peaceful and positive environment to the children growth. All of this must be actively worked on and should not be seen as something normal, nor become a culture that damages future generations.
