With the increasing number of programmes available to watch on TV, many people argue that this device take up their free time, thereby causing physical laziness and antisocial behaviours. However, I firmly believe that adults remain the sole determinants of what they do with their time and TV only has a little influence on that.
It is true that media activities like music videos, reality TV shows, and other entertainment events could keep the public glued to their screens. Employees may decide to dedicate their lunch break to some of these programs at work, hence returning to duty without the necessary refreshment that is needed to remain energetic. This trend can negatively impact the daily overall productivity of workers when it is unchecked. Likewise, families may choose to stay at home on weekends to watch their favorite movies, while neglecting the social clubs or societies that they belong to. When this occurs more frequently than it should, people lose the bonds and skills that are needed to sustain the relationships they share with others. For instance, a man who previously plays weekend football with friends may become reluctant to leave home if he becomes addicted to the comfort that comes with watching movies at home.
Nevertheless, TV influence on the choices individuals make with their time is insignificant. Because people have the the freewill to design their own time-table, programs being aired by media houses should not prevent them from carrying out their duties or interacting with others when necessary. What is important is self-discipline, where individauls adhere strictly to a productive routine, by maintaining a balanced attention between the distinct areas of their lives. Moreso, smart televesions features could be employed such that appropriate time is allocated to specific programes after which the device shuts off. This significantly negates the influence of TV on people’s free-time.
In conclusion, television devices are supposed to help us relax and cope with our responsibilities, not avoid to totally avoid them. Therefore, people should make conscious efforts to ensure that this leisure activity does not affect their professional and social lives.
